Happy New Year!
On behalf of the Pink Space Theory Team, we want to thank everyone for supporting us in 2020. Despite the challenges, our community of volunteers, corporations, and local businesses came together to help impact the lives of others. Amy Leigh Mercree's quote, "Kindness can transform someone's dark moment with a blaze of light. You'll never know how much your caring matters. Make a difference for another today." sums up what unwavering sacrifice can do for others during challenging times.
When we look at the past twelve months, it is easy to get lost in the unpredictable hardships each of us had to bear. However, in these challenging times, our blaze of light, as Mercree says, can shine the strongest. We are looking back with a smile and a glint of hope in our eyes. Though physically far apart, our mission thrived with the endless support and dedication of our community, a community that was able to touch what no distance can take away – the hearts and minds of our incredible students. It has been a year of advances and setbacks, but the moments of success and glee rose above the ashes.
One of our exceptional volunteers held the first-ever STEM career talks to two high schools in Virginia, sharing valuable information on a career in bioinformatics. This event provided over 50 students with an inspiring outlook on the future, an opportunity they otherwise would have had.
On November 7, we held our first-ever Roblox Code-A-Thon for a group of 3rd and 4th-grade girls attending Swans Creek Elementary School in Dumfries, Virginia. Seeing the happiness on our youngest's faces is always the best gratification we can receive; taking away the worry etched into their faces at times like these, even if only for a short period, is one of the greatest pleasures all educators can experience. Guiding the future STEM leaders of our world has been a goal dear to all of our hearts.
We are also incredibly proud of our 3-week Summer Math Enrichment Program, which we offered for over 30+ students at Graham Park Middle School in Triangle, Virginia. After not seeing their peers for months, we provided them with a safe learning environment, free of pressure, and a space for experimentation and self-improvement. Added to the joy of teaching these young, imaginative minds, the program was a sign of our community's resilience and strength,
Even at a high point of a global pandemic, Pink Space Theory has continued to share and learn, inspire, and be inspired. This year has proven that our cause is more significant than what can be physically grasped.
Again, we want to thank you for your unwavering and unconditional support. Pink Space Theory is not an organization but a community of dedicated volunteers, change-makers, and supporters who are passionate about providing our kids with a space where they can pursue their passions and build the mental toughness to persevere in all things. Marie Curie has said, "I was taught that the way of progress was neither swift nor easy.", a quote fitting to every area of our life and the perfect summary of our journey this year. I want to wish all of our supporters a Happy New Year and for their kindness to remain inexhaustible!
